The 14th Annual NH Monarch Festival Will Be at Belmont Village on August 22, 2026

Family-friendly event celebrates monarch butterflies, milkweed, and conservation with kids’ activities, tagging demonstrations, and a butterfly release ceremony

BELMONT, NH — The NH Monarch Festival, one of New Hampshire’s beloved annual nature celebrations, will hold its 14th annual event on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Tioga Pavilion in Belmont Village, New Hampshire. The festival runs from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is open to attendees of all ages.

The event celebrates the remarkable migration of monarch butterflies — an iconic species that passes through New Hampshire each August and September on its journey to overwintering sites in the oyamel fir forests of Michoacán, Mexico. Once among the most abundant butterflies in North America, the monarch has lost more than 80% of its population since the 1990s.

This year’s festival will feature hands-on monarch tagging with Monarch Watch-certified tags, a live butterfly release ceremony (as nature allows), educational booths, kids’ activities, and a variety of conservation-focused vendors and exhibitors. The festival draws approximately 300 attendees from across New Hampshire and neighboring states.

“The NH Monarch Festival is about more than just monarch butterflies. It’s about conservation, how one simple creature can help an entire ecosystem thrive. It’s about educating our community in a fun setting with the natural world and inspiring people of all ages to take action. We all benefit.”

— Amira Provost, NHMF Coordinator and citizen scientist

Admission is $4 for children ages 3–12, $7 for adults, and $5 for seniors. Any attendee who arrives in an appropriate butterfly, caterpillar, or garden creature costume is admitted free.
